Adapter Brass
Non-standard brass pipes---Help!?
I cut the old sink out of my bathroom and the pipes looked copper when I cleaned the paint off, but they are really brass. They are slightly larger and thicker than copper pipes and nothing fits them. No one seems to have an answer beyond "you're screwed". Is there a threading kit? Or pex tubing w/ adapters? I'm about to give up and just call a plumber (maybe the only smart thing to come out of my bathroom renovation!)
Thanks, Alan, I'm going to let the plumber deal with this because if I mess it up, I'll be tearing out walls and floors to get at the pipes soon! Too bad there isn't a kit with a NPS threader and shut-off adapter available. My house was built in 1900 and I can't be the only one running into this problem.
They may very well be old brass pipes and yes you CAN re-thread them. They came (and still do come) in the same sizes as black pipe and galvanized pipes. Any plumber should be able to help you out if you want to save - reuse them, OR, yes you CAN get adapters to any type of pipe you want. You can pick any type of pipe you want, and just buy the adapter for that type, then continue on with it.
