Hex Nuts
Is there a use for locking lug nuts?
When I first heard about them, I thought they were a great idea, but now that I've had them, I'm not so sure...
The "key" is a little large to be lugging around on my keychain, but if I ever get a flat, I'll need it around, so I guess most owners keep theirs in the trunk somewhere.
I don't know a lot of car thieves, but I'd imagine that most folks with enough tools to steal the tires and leave the car on bricks would also get inside the vehicle, or have something that can get a glorified hex head nut off of a tire, and since there's only one on each wheel I don't imagine they would be much use against "pranksters" either.
Maybe they've got some use with custom rims or something...
I'd have to say "No".
Most thieves these days just steal the whole vehicle.
Even at that, lock removers(beveled edged hollow sleeve cylinders, designed for auto shops to remove wheels for those who lost their lock-key) are available publicly.
Bottom line, if someone wants your wheels so badly... they'll get them no matter what you do.
