How can I lace up my wedge espadrilles so the cords don't fall to my ankles?

I have tried tying them a couple ways but each time they have fallen eventually. I also walk fast and have a long stride, so is it just that I put to much stress on the cords for them to be stable on my calves?

I like to do them pretty tight and also a little trick i learned in pagents and cheerleading...if you dont want things to fall or ride....use a dab of hairspray.... just spray a little on your legs where the ribbons will go and lace them up while the mist is a lil wet still....
